What is clearing?
Clearing gives you another opportunity to find a place at university this September.
You can apply for a Clearing place if you want to study at university, but are not holding a place and/or have not met the conditions of your offers.
Organised by UCAS, Clearing is designed to help students who:
- Have sent their application to UCAS after 30 June
- Haven’t already applied through UCAS before the deadline and would like to make an application
- Haven’t got the results they expected and therefore have been unable to secure their first or second choice of course.
Who can apply?
You can use Clearing if you:
- are registered with UCAS (find out how to apply through UCAS)
- are not holding any offers
- have all your examination results.
You are automatically entered into Clearing if you apply late for your course (after 30 June).
If you’ve been accepted at another university but want to come to University Centre Sparsholt, you can call our Clearing team to discuss your options – 01962 797269
If you applied for a course at University and were unsuccessful, but you now meet the entry requirements for your chosen course, you can also apply through Clearing
When does clearing open?
Clearing starts from July onwards (or as soon as you have all your qualification results). Adjustment doesn’t start until A-level results are published in August.
You can find University Centre Sparsholt courses you can apply for through Clearing on our website from July.

When does clearing open?
Every year thousands of students find a suitable university place through Clearing, so above all try not to panic. We have places available on a number of our degree level courses so here’s what you have to do next:
- Take a look at the alternative courses available including the ones we offer here to make sure you are happy with the course content and you are heading in the right career direction.
- Take a look at the entry requirements for courses with vacancies and compare with your grades to make sure you are choosing courses at the right level for you.
- Contact us on the number below to express an interest in our courses and we will take details of your grades and pass to our tutors to assess your suitability.
Note: your eligibility for Clearing will show up on your UCAS Trackpage and you will know if you’re in Clearing if your UCAS Track status says ‘You are in Clearing’ or ‘Clearing has started’. This will also be where you will find your Clearing Number (universities will need this so that they can access your application) and the ‘Add a Clearing choice‘ button.
If financial issues are a concern, find out about what loans or bursaries may be available to you that will help support your learning. Our Fees and Finance page will give you more information on this.
