Studying Veterinary Nursing at University Centre Sparsholt

I chose Sparsholt because it offers a wide range of courses on a fantastic campus. I initially enrolled on the Access to Higher Education course to gain the qualifications I needed, which helped me decide which pathway was right for me. The course has provided me with an excellent knowledge base and a wide range of practical skills to prepare me for placement. It offers detailed insight into veterinary nursing, with a variety of assignments that have helped me develop a clear understanding of the role and responsibilities of a veterinary nurse, making studying manageable and engaging.

My course highlights include passing exams I once doubted I could achieve, submitting assignments I am genuinely proud of, and having the opportunity to complete a year in placement which has been transformative, taking me from feeling like a new student to feeling confident and ready to qualify as a veterinary nurse.

I have found the facilities at Sparsholt to be excellent. It has been great to see the continued investment in new facilities for students, such as the new UCS Centre. The library is another standout facility; the staff are extremely helpful, and the wide range of resources available both in print and online has been invaluable when completing assignments.

The lecturers have been fantastic throughout my journey, from the Access to Higher Education course through to my degree. They have consistently supported me during times of doubt or challenge and always take the time to ensure everyone fully understands the material.

My aim is to qualify as a registered veterinary nurse and begin my career in a first-opinion veterinary practice before working towards further qualifications in a specialised area of veterinary nursing.

Being a UCS graduate will give me a strong foundation of knowledge, practical skills, and real‑world experience that will support me as I begin my career. The reputation of Sparsholt, combined with the quality of teaching and extensive placement experience, will help me progress confidently into practice and continue developing my skills in the future. I am a mature student and a single mum, and I wasn’t sure whether I could make such a big change in my life. However, I have never regretted my decision, even during the challenging moments.
